For hand warmth, the G.I.s were issued wool gloves that had a leather palm. While not necessarily the best and warmest gloves ever, anything was better than nothing when freezing in Belgium. This two-material style was issued from 1942 to the end of the war.
They were also given regular kint all-wool gloves as well as leather work gloves, which were a light tan color, often seen in the possession of drivers, mechanics, and paratroopers. If you absolultely need gloves and are on a budget, modern olive drab liner gloves will suffice.
